Why Ha Long Bay

  • One of the world's most stunning natural landscapes
  • Overnight boat cruises are a quintessential Vietnam experience
  • Kayaking through karst islands and hidden lagoons

Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring nearly 2,000 limestone karst islands rising from emerald waters in the Gulf of Tonkin. It is Vietnam's most iconic natural landscape and appears on virtually every backpacker's itinerary. Most visitors experience the bay on overnight boat cruises departing from Halong City or Tuan Chau Island. For fewer crowds and similar scenery, consider nearby Lan Ha Bay or Bai Tu Long Bay.
