Why Sapa

  • Spectacular terraced rice paddies, especially during green (June–August) and golden (September–October) seasons
  • Trekking and homestays in ethnic minority villages for an authentic cultural experience
  • Fansipan — the "Roof of Indochina" — is climbable or reachable by cable car

Sapa sits at 1,500 m in the Hoang Lien Son mountains near the Chinese border and is famous for its cascading rice terraces, ethnic minority villages, and Vietnam's highest peak — Fansipan (3,143 m). The town itself has become quite touristy, but the surrounding valleys remain stunning. Multi-day homestay treks through Hmong, Dao, and Tay villages are the main draw for backpackers.
